This document is a model provided by the ESFA to help employers. The apprenticeship contract, registered with an SAQ, can serve as a framework for quality assurance, since employers and apprentices can fulfill their obligations. An apprenticeship contract must be signed at the beginning of the apprenticeship. It is used to validate individual employment agreements between the apprentice and the employer. In countries where apprentices have the status of a worker of the company, there may be different forms of agreement. In South Africa, for example, the employer and apprentice sign two contracts – an apprenticeship and an employment contract. This agreement must be signed by the apprentice and the employer at the beginning of the apprenticeship.
